Review & Description
IRIS: Iris is a genus of between 200-300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. A must have perennial, the iris tolerates wet, boggy areas and is very adaptable to a variety of soil types.
Striped Bearded Iris 'Superstition' (Iris germanica). Stars of the late spring perennial garden!
Bearded Iris are delightful and showy in May and June, by themselves or in a mixed perennial border. Some have a sweet fragrance - plant them where they can be truly appreciated. They are easy to grow but cannot tolerate wet feet, so be sure the soil is well drained. They prefer full sun, but will bloom if they get sun for at least half the day. When planting, set rhizomes so the soil barely covers the top - do not plant too deeply.
