A robust native to much of California, "Queen Anne's Thimbles" forms a bushy multi-branching annual to 28 inches tall by 12 inches across with dense, ferny, almost lacy, rich green foliage. Throughout spring and early summer, it bears scented, lavender blue flowers held in spherical clusters & loved by butterflies, bees, and more! Perhaps this is the reason for the common name - the flower head of Gilia Capitata looks a bit like a pincushion with pins sticking in it.
